To any future hairdressers, I highly recommend attending Salon Institute. I am a fellow graduate, working full time in a salon that I absolutely love and am so thankful for— and I wouldn’t of known about the job opportunity if it wasn’t for them. They care about your education, your future ...YOU. I do recommend doing the program that teaches hair, skin, and nails. If you're going to invest, invest in the most education that’s going to add to your skill level. Learning this trade did not come naturally for me but it has always been instilled in my heart that I wanted to be a cosmetologist. I wanted to help people feel and look their absolute best! With the support of my educators, and staff of the school (and of course my family) somehow I managed to push through and graduate and am doing what I love! THANK YOU for everything.

As a former student I can say that I got the best quality of education I could have possibly got. My instructors went out of their way to make sure I would succeed. They were always there when I had a question or just needed someone to talk to. By the time I was done in the classroom and was on the clinic floor I felt prepared and confident. The atmosphere was amazing and that was initially what got me interested in the school. Besides learning cosmetology and growing as a cosmetologist, I grew as a person. I wouldn't change the time I had at school.❤️ Love what you learn.

Ready to start your career in cosmetology? Visit Salon Institute at either our Toledo or Columbus campus to discover the possibilities that await.
Salon Institute offers 3 major programs of study: 1,200 clock hour Hair Design Program, 1,500 clock hour Cosmetology Program, and 1,800 clock hour Advanced Cosmetology Program.
Our 1,800 clock hour program covers all elements of cosmetology, as well as a 300 clock hour business portion that focuses on salon management and additional advanced techniques. Our full Advanced Cosmetology Program includes hair cutting, coloring and styling; skin care, facials, waxing, regular make up; nail tech courses (manicures, pedicures, nail art, gel lacquer and GEL-X extensions); and the business program I mentioned before. This program is designed to be completed in 13.5 months (54 weeks) if you attend 5 days per week.
An advanced cosmetology license is a large umbrella license that allows you to practice all forms of cosmetology in Ohio. We focus on teaching not just amazing technical skills, but training you to be an entrepreneur. A successful beauty consultant is more than just artistic; they are business-savvy as well! While you do not need an advanced cosmetology license to work as an independent contractor/booth renter or be alone in a salon, an advanced cosmetology license is required in order to obtain your instructor’s license.
We train our students in internationally recognized cutting and coloring techniques. We use Goldwell color, Pigment make-up, Babe hair extensions, and are an all exclusive Bella Lash partner school. Our graduates go on to work as salon owners, stylists, make-up artists, educators and nail techs.
Salon Institute graduates have developed careers where they specialize in one segment of the beauty industry, including:
It’s awesome to find a niche specialty where you can show off your best skills. Salon Institute’s Advanced Cosmetology Program gives students a well-rounded education so that you can confidently choose if and how you want to specialize … and then have options.
The Salon Institute’s Cosmetology Program is a 1,500 clock hour program that covers hair cutting, coloring, styling and chemical treatments, nail theory and classic manicuring and pedicuring (including gel laquer and GEL-X extensions), skin care, classic relaxing facial techniques and aromatherapy, facial waxing, and regular make-up. If you attend the Cosmetology Program 5-days per week, you will be projected to graduate in 11 months.
Our Hair Designer Program is a 1,200 clock hour program that focuses strictly on elements of men and women's hair cutting, coloring, styling techinques and chemical treatments. Using the internationally recognized TIGI curriculum, our students complete their program confident and ready to become a viable part of a salon or shop -- in as little as 9 months! The Hair Designer Program has been a fantastic fit for students who are more interested in barbering and focusing only on hair cutting once they graduate. While the Hair Design Program is not a barbering program, it does focus on elements of men’s hair cutting and grooming. It does not include education in straight razor shaving.
While the Salon Institute’s goal is to produce confident, salon-viable future stylists, our reputation is grounded in our TIGI hair education and we are very proud of the responses we have received from the salons who have hired our graduates. Our programs are not a fit for students who do not plan on learning hair styling skills, even if they do not choose to focus on hair once they graduate. We do not offer a nail tech only program, nor do we offer an aesthetics only program. We build nail and aesthetic training into our Cosmetology and Advanced Cosmetology Programs.
